Edward Hopper: New York and Beyond. More than 150 works from the Whitney Museum
Palazzo Blu brings to Pisa one of the leading figures of twentieth-century American art with Edward Hopper: New York e oltre. The exhibition is curated by Barbara Haskell, curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, with the assistance of Caroline Webb.
More than 150 paintings, watercolours, drawings, etchings and archival materials retrace the artist’s life and career in five sections. New York is at the centre; around it are the places that shaped his eye: Paris, the New England coast, his journeys across the United States.
The works come from the Whitney Museum, largely from the Josephine N. Hopper bequest. They include Queensborough Bridge (1913), Soir Bleu (1914), Cape Cod Sunset (1934) and a self-portrait from 1925–30.
The exhibition is promoted by the Fondazione Palazzo Blu and organised by the Whitney Museum of American Art with MondoMostre, with the support of Fondazione Pisa.
