“Vedova Tintoretto. In dialogue” – Dialogues between Renaissance and Informal, Palazzo Madama Turin

From September 19, 2025 to January 12, 2026, Palazzo Madama – Civic Museum of Ancient Art in Turin hosts a special exhibition that parallels the work of Jacopo Robusti, known as Tintoretto and Emilio Vedova.

The idea is to make apparently distant eras dialogue, revealing how Vedova has made the Renaissance master a point of reference, reworking themes, tensions and ways of expression with a contemporary look.

What to see and why to visit

The exhibition includes about fifty masterpieces, including works by Tintoretto and Vedova compared.

Among the most prestigious loans:

• Self-portrait of Tintoretto from 1588, from the Musée du Louvre, a central canvas for the exhibition.

• The ancone of the Camerlenghi from the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice.

• Works from the Metamorphosis cycle kept at the Este Galleries of Modena.

The dialogue develops through historical and stylistic phases: from the youthful drawings of Vedova (from the 1930s), through his rereadings of Renaissance works (e.g. Multiplication of breads and fish, Crucifixion) until the 1980s.

An element of great impact is the monumental installation …in continuum, interpenetration/translations ’87/’88, composed of over a hundred assembled canvases, which occupies in a scenic way the Senate Chamber of the Kingdom of Italy.
